In January 2007, the port of Saint Petersburg handled 4 100 thou tons of cargo (+12%, year-on-year), Administration of the seaport of Saint Petersburg reports. Transshipment of metal scrap amounted to 188.1 thou tons (-6%), timber - 188.9 thou tons (-31%). Transshipment of containerized cargo grew by 32 % to 1213.4 thou tons (118251.0 TEU). Over the reported period the port handled 308.8 thou tons (+39%). Transshipment of general cargo grew to 1012.1 thou tons (+11%), coal and coke – to 210.6 thou tons (+53%). Transshipment of ore decreased by 23% to 47.8 thou tons. In January, the port handled 37.7 thou tons of grain (+67%). 972 vessels called in the port of Saint Petersburg in January 2007.
