Damen Shipyards Group develops construction of ships powered by LNG and electricity
Damen Shipyards Group (Netherlands) develops construction of ships powered by LNG and electricity, Peter Anssems, Sales Manager for East and South-East Europe at Damen Shipyards Group, said at the 3rd “LNG Fleet and LNG Bunkering in Russia” conference organized by PortNews Media Group (Moscow, October 22).
According to him, the company is currently building a 6,000-cbm LNG bunkering ship.
Besides, it newly developed design of the RSD Tug 2513 provides for installation of an electric system, hybrid system or a system running on compressed natural gas (CNG). For compliance with Tier III, Damen offers a SCR system applicable for MTU 4000 and CAT 3500 engines.
The company is also building two 149-meter LNG-powered Ro-Ro ferries for Seaspan.
Moreover, Damen subdivisions succeed in repair of LNG-powered ships and in conversion of ships to LNG. The company converted a 8,500-cbm dredger to dual-fuel LNG/MGO propulsion. The ship returned to work 23 months after contract signing. This period included the works on designing and preparations.
In the future, the company is set to commence serial construction of LNG bunkering ships.
