Cargo turnover of Latvian ports down 10% in Jan. 07, y-o-y

In January 2007, cargo turnover of Latvian ports totaled 4.446 million tons (-10%, year-on-year), RZD-Partner report. The highest result was demonstrated in the sector of bulk cargo. Transshipment of loose dry cargo totaled 1.967 million tons (-7.4%)including 1.009 million tons of coal (-15.1%). Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo amounted to 1.798 million tons (-13.9%), including 1.523 million tons of oil products (-22.3%). Transshipment of general cargo totaled 681.3 thou tons (-6.4%).

Cargo turnover of the port of Ventspils fell 11.7%, year-on-year, to 2.208 million tons. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo decreased by 16.5% to 1.344 million tons including 1.086 million tons of oil products (-27.8%). Transshipment of loose dry cargo slipped by 7.2% - to 684.4 thou tons, while transshipment of general cargo grew by 17.1%, year-on-year,  to 179.8 thou tons.

Cargo turnover of the port of Riga fell by 10.7% - to 1.838 million tons Transshipment of loose dry cargo- 1.092 million tons (-11%) including 690.2 thou tons of coal (-23.6%); general cargo - 353 thou tons (-13.2%). Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo amounted to 393.2 thou tons (-7.6%).

Cargo turnover of the port of Liepaja grew by 25.4% - to 332.6 thou tons, including 156.1 thou tons of loose dry cargo (+27.5%), 116.4 thou tons of general cargo (+30.8%), 60.1 thou tons of liquid bulk cargo (+11.7% compared to January 2006).

Cargo turnover of seven minor ports decreased by 42% - to 67.4 thou tons. The leaders were Skulte which handled 25.1 thou tons (-42.4%), Salatsgriv - 22.2 thou tons (-34.9%) and Mersgar - 19.2 thou tons (-44.3%).
