ESPO construction at Aldan–Tynda starts in February

Welding and installation in the second segment of the ESPO oil pipeline system between the cities of Aldan and Tynda will start at the end of February 2007.

The state experts approved the project (technical and economic assessment) in late 2006, LLC "TsUP VSTO" reported to RIA PrimaMedia.

The segment will be about 420 kilometres long; the route will cross the Tynda District of the Amur Area, the Aldan and Neryungri Districts of Yakutia.

Before starting the works, the developer, LLC "TsUP VSTO," has made a number of preparations for supply schemes, allocation of production storages, and camps for workers. In particular, building materials for 35 kilometres of the pipeline has already been delivered. This will allow the developer to quickly proceed to welding and installation.

ESPO's general designer is OJSC "VNIIST;" LLC "TsUP VSTO" (an OJSC "AK "Transneft" branch company) is the pipe's developer. LLC "Vostoknefteprovod" (another branch of Transneft) will operate the pipe in the future.

The first start-up complex of the ESPO pipeline system requires construction of an oil pipeline capable to transfer 30 million tons of oil a year from Taishet to Skovorodino and the Kozmino special sea port (near Nakhodka, Primorye).

Now that the initial plan for the pipe route has been changed, the construction has been split up into two projects. Construction is done in the areas between Taishet and Ust-Kut, Ust-Kut and Talakansk oil deposit, and Tynda and Skovorodino. The company has welded about 570 kilometres of the pipes in one line. The total length of the pipeline is about 2,800 kilometres.
