More containers overboard from MSC Napoli
Last week about ten containers were washed overboard from the listing MSC Napoli stranded in the World heritage site Lyme Bay on the English south coast. Two containers, filled with paper and cookies, were washed ashore and the rest sank. To avoid plundering the shore was closed. Those who plundered containers in January now only have a couple of days left to report their as goods to the authorities, or be subject of criminal investigation.
The ship had around 2,300 containers onboard when she in hard weather suffered structural damage to the hull. Just over 100 containers were washed over board during the initial crisis and rescue operation Up until this week about 340 containers has been salvaged by the salvage barges on site. During poor weather conditions, such as last week, the salvage operation must be put to a halt.
