Loading of CIS railways up 4.2% in 2006
In 2006, railways of CIS countries increased transportation by 86.4 million tons (+4.2%) compared to that of 2005, RZD Department of corporate communications reports according to RZD-Partner. Total loading of all CIS railways exceeded 2.1 billion tons of cargo (+2.1% against plan). Loading of coal grew by 3.8%, oil and oil products – by 3.3%, cement – by 11.9%, non-ferrous ore – by 9.2%, ferrous ore – by 8.7%, ferrous metal – by 9.8, industrial raw materials – by 5.5%, construction cargo – by 2.9%, containerized cargo – by 5.7%.
Stable growth was demonstrated by railways of Moldavia (+17.7%), Georgia (+15.3%), Kirgizia (+12%), Azerbaijan (+10.3%), Kazakhstan (+10.2%) and other countries. Cargo turnover grew by 5.6% against 2005. The highest growth of cargo turnover was demonstrated by railways of Moldavia (+22.7%), Georgia (+20.4%), Azerbaijan (+14.9%), Tajikistan (+14.5%), Kirgizia (+13.6) and Kazakhstan (+11.3). Average daily loading of containers totaled 5 708 units including 2 398 units of large-capacity containers. Loading of containers grew by 1.8%, year-on-year, while loading of large-capacity containers grew by 5.9%. The highest growth was demonstrated by railways of Russia, Kazakhstan and Latvia.
