Shipyard ASRY (Bahrain) total income of US$140m in 2006
Bahrain-based shipyard ASRY says 2006 proved to be record year with total income of US$140m, 26.7% up on the previous year.
A statement says: “The yard was kept virtually fully occupied throughout the year, with all facilities working at full capacity. There were some 139 vessels in for repair, ranging form the usual VLCCs through to major upgrade and conversion contracts on a number of offshore rigs and heavy lift crane ships and barges, again clearly illustrating ASRY’s range of expertise and skills in undertaking complex and sophisticated repairs to a broad range of vessels. Turnover on repaired vessels increased and of those vessels docked during 2006, 24 vessels were in the 70,000 to 350,000dwt range, with 12 over 175,000dwt, with the remaining 115 vessels below 70,000 dwt. There were 20 vessels which had along side repairs making a total tonnage of just under 7 million dwt repaired during the year.”
According to the yard it has been strongly supported by local owners in the Arabian Gulf area as well as from the International markets and a large number of owners has had multiple dockings in the yard throughout 2006. Kuwait Oil Tanker Co stemmed seven vessels at ASRY as well as having its new multi-purpose service boat, the Nakilat-VI built there.”
The yard says that all the current indications are that the next twelve months will continue to be just as successful as 2006.
