A discussion held between Italian Minister for Infrastructure Antonio Di Pietro and Union Minister for Railways Lalu Prasad could lead to future bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the rail transport sector.
Indian Railways has adopted a strategy to evolve PPP to the maximum extent. The number of projects have been identified which will be implemented on PPP route, including the Dedicated Freight Corridor, modernisation of railway stations, commercial utilisation of vacant railway land and operation of container trains, etc.
The Italian minister also met T. R. Baalu, Union minister for shipping, road transport and highways, apprising him about the recent developments by Italy in the road and port sectors.
Pietro highlighted the importance of safety, environmental protection, quality, archaeological and historical aspects, which the infrastructure firms of Italy follow while executing these projects.
