Fixed Fehmarn link (Germany) postponed for a decade

The fixed link over Fehmarn Belt will not get any kind of high priority in Germany. That was made clear on Tuesday when the Danish minister of Transport, Flemming Hansen, had several meetings with his German college, Wolfgang Tienfensee, in Berlin in order to smooth the way for the bridge from Rødbyhavn to Puttgarden on the Isle of Fehmarn. The message was very clear from Germany: There are a number of other large projects in the German infrastructure, which is far more needed than the fixed link.
The Danish minister of Transport has for a number of years been very keen on being the minister that signed up for this particular bridge. He has made a great effort to arrange for private financing of the fixed link, but still it did not tempt the German minister.
