Eurogate logs big rise in rail capacity
Eurogate Intermodal has expanded its rail capacity by 62% since the beginning of this year.
“BoxXpress is transporting an additional 700 teu, bringing up our total transport volume to 1,750 teu a day,” said Lars Hedderich, managing director of Eurogate Intermodal. BoxXpress, Europe’s largest block train operator, specialises in the transport of overseas containers from seaports into the hinterland.
Maersk Line is a shareholder in BoxXpress through its subsidiary European Rail Shuttle. Eurogate Intermodal is a subsidiary of Europe’s largest box handling group.
Eurogate Intermodal’s latest system, BoxXpress.hu, which started operating last May, has already doubled its capacity to meet demand. Now four trains a week with 90 teu each are running from Hamburg to Budapest and back to Hamburg or Bremerhaven via Munich.
