Mismanaged Norwegian controlled bulker in detention
A port state control inspection revealed over 30 deficiencies on the bulk carrier the Golden Glory. On February 22, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) decided to detain the 36,433 GT Bahamas-flagged ship in Liverpool. MCA calls it a classic case of serious neglect by the owners and operators, and to allow the Golden Glory to continue to trade in its present condition would pose an unacceptable risk to the safety of its crew and other seafarers. The Golden Glory was also detained in Hamburg in January. According to the Equasis database, the Golden Glory has had six port state control inspections in eight months, with up to 30 deficiencies as a result. Several concerning the work environment and the food. The inspection in Liverpool was initiated by a report from Customs regarding crew conditions onboard.
The Golden Glory is owned by the Oslo-based American Bulker KS and is on bareboat charter to the John Fredriksen company Golden Ocean on Bermuda.
