Cargo turnover of the port of Caucasus up 19.9% in Jan.-Feb. 07, y-o-y

In January-February, 2007, cargo turnover of the port of Caucasus grew by 19.9%, year-on-year, to 737.74 thou tons, PortNews IAA learnt from Taman branch of Rosmorport FSUE. Over the reported period the port exported 570.66 thou tons (2.3-fold growth compared to January-February 2006). Transshipment of import cargo grew by 17%, year-on-year, to 167.08 thou tons. In the two-month period the port handled 8.163 thou tons of fertilizers and 14.945 thou tons of general cargo. Off-harbor transshipment was not carried out in January-February. Over the reported period the port handled 312 vessels (+53.69%, year-on-year).

The port of Caucasus is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch Strait from the side of Russia. The port of Caucasus is ice-free, so it has the ability to handle both river vessels (depth of 4.5 meters) and sea vessels (off-harbor transshipment). The port handles loose cargo, general cargo and timber at the berths and oil products off the harbor.
