Freight turnover of the ports of Russia was equal to 94.2 million tons in the first quarter
Freight turnover of the Russia’s ports has exceeded 94.2 million tons in the first quarter 2006. As the press release of the Association of Sea trade ports reports, in the current year there was a decrease in growth of freight turnover; the volume of turnover increased only by 2.7 %: comparing to the similar period of 2005, first of all due to a decrease of volume of the transshipment of dry cargoes in the Far East and the North-West basins. In total for the accounting period Russian stevedoring companies processed 38 million tons dry (-2.1 %) and 56.2 million tons bulk (+6 %) cargoes. Total freight turnover of the ports of the Northwest basin has increased by 3 %. The volume of transportations via the ports of the region has exceeded 41 million tons, among them15.5 million tons of dry cargoes (-3 %) and 25.5 million tons of bulk cargoes (+7 %). Freight turnover of the stevedoring companies of the Port St.-Petersburg has decreased by 4.4 % to 10.8 million tons; in the port of Murmansk - by 1.6 % to 7.5 million tons. Freight turnover of Spetsmornefteport (Special Sea Oil Port) LLC (the port of Primorsk) has grown by 7 % and has exceeded 14.9 million tons.
Through the ports of the Southern basin there were 38 million tons transported that is 6 % higher, than figures of the similar period of 2005, among which 10.7 million tons of dry cargoes (+9 %) and 27.3 million tons of bulk cargoes (+5 %). Stevedoring companies of the port of Novorossiski have processed 28.3 million tons, which is 6.4 % higher than the figures for the first quarter of the last year. The volume of transhipment of dry cargoes has increased by 15 % to 6.6 million tons and of bulk cargoes- by 4 % to 21.7 million tons. Tuapse Sea Trade Port has processed 5.2 million tons (+3.7 %), among which 1.7 million tons (+10 %) of dry cargoes and 3.5 million tons of bulk cargoes (+0.9 %).
Total freight turnover of the ports of the Far East has decreased by 5.4 % due to dry cargoes; freight turnover of region was equal to 15.17 million tons for the first quarter compared to 16 million tons for 2005. Thus the volume of transhipment of dry cargoes has decreased by 10 % to 11.9 million tons, while transhipment of bulk cargoes has increased by 11 % to 3.3 million tons. Freight turnover of the stevedoring companies of the port Vostochniy (Eastern) has decreased by 7.2 % to 4.47 million tons; of the stevedoring companies of the port of Vladivostok - by 28.9 % to 2.87 million tons; freight turnover of the stevedoring companies of Nahodka has decreased by 3.9 % to 4 million tons.
