The EU transport commissioner slams sluggish member states

The EU Commission’s vice president and transport commissioner Jacques Barrot has grown tired of the resistance against new maritime safety regulations from certain member states. In an interview with AFP, he identifies three member states – Malta, Cyprus and Greece – as states dragging their feet over the latest rule package. “They have made maritime transport a pillar of their economies. They are the least inclined to accept changes”. According to Barrot, there are member states, but this time without mentioning anyone, that “are hiding mediocre ships under their flag”, and these states “will have to put their house in order”.
