Coscon to spend $264m for four 5,100-teu containerships

Cosco Container Lines (Coscon) is continuing to expand its fleet, investing close to $264m on newbuildings at state-owned Jiangnan Changxing Shipyard.
Industry players say Coscon has signed up for four 5,100-teu containerships at the yard, bringing the total number of panamax vessels it has on order there to 12.
TradeWinds is told the latest quartet are options the company has held since signing up for the eight earlier units in the middle of last year.
A source familiar with the deal says Coscon firmed up the latest four ships only last month. They are said to be costing close to $66m each, some $1.4m more per vessel than the earlier eight.
A yard source confirms the booking and adds that the owner will take delivery of all 12 newbuildings between 2009 and 2010.
