Containerships Ltd Oy (Finland) is to invest 170 million euro into construction of two container terminals in Leningradskaya oblast. As Interfax reports, Grigory Dvas, the chairman of the committee of economic development of Leningradskaya oblast stated this Wednesday during the Days of the Russian economy in Finland economic forum. “Today an agreement between Containerships Ltd Company and the government of Leningradskaya oblast about construction of two terminals has been signed, - he said. According to Dvas, the first agreement provides construction of the terminal for transhipment of containers in the port of Primorsk. The first stage of the project, the implementation of which is to begin this year, is calculated for transhipment of 500 thousand containers a year. In future capacity of the terminal will be increased up to 1-2 million containers a year that will allow Primorsk to become the largest container port the Northwest of the Russian Federation. The second agreement is to deal with construction of the terminal in Janino settlement of Vsevolozhskiy region of Leningradskaya oblast, where containers will be sorted for the further transportation of the cargoes to the regions of Russian Federation. According to Dvas, the total cost of the projects will be 170 million euro. Means will be invested within 2006-2007. As it was informed earlier, in February of the current year, the authorities of Leningradskaya oblast have approved the project of construction of a multimode complex of container processing of cargoes and logistical terminals in Janino settlement at a cost of $70 million initiated by Containerships East Ltd. LLC (subsidiary of Finnish company Containerships Oy). In 2002 Containerships Oy has constructed the sea container terminal in the city of Kronshtadt.
