Svitzer tug sank off Swedish west coast

SwitzerWijsmuller’s tug Bohus grounded off the island of Orust on the Swedish west coast after an engine breakdown in rough weather conditions on Friday. Subsequently, the vessel slid from the shoal and sank to the bottom at a water depth of approximately 14 metres. Bohus has 95 tons of gas oil and four tons of lubricants onboard.
“Initially, there was a small spill of hydraulic oil, but this was washed away by the waves”, says Lasse Johnsson, officer on duty at the Swedish Coast Guard.
There are no personal injuries reported and the crew of four was evacuated successfully by helicopter.
SwitzerWijsmuller has mobilised salvage crews from Sweden and Holland. The 33-metre long Bohus was built in Åmål, Sweden in 1974.
