Freight turnover of the Latvian ports in the first quarter 2006 is equal to 14.5 million tons
Freight turnover of the Latvian ports was equal to14.523 million tons in the first quarter of this year that is 0.8 % less, than for the similar period of the last year, RZHD-Partner reports. Freight turnover of the port of Ventspilssk was reduced by 3.4 % to 7.291 million tons. 4.56 million tons of bulk cargoes have been transhipped, that is 6.6 % less, including 4.249 million tons of oil products, that is 8 % less. 2,111 million tons of bulk cargoes have been transhipped (-13.8 %), 580 thousand tons of general cargoes, that’s 2.26 times as much. Freight turnover of the port of Riga has increased by 5.2 % to 6.026 million tons. 3.648 million tons of bulk cargoes have transhipped (+17.6 %), including coal – 2.719 million tons (+23.9 %). 1.213 million tons of bulk cargoes have been processed (+5.9 %), including oil products – 1.203 million tons (+ 9.9 %), general cargoes – 1.165 million tons (-21.2 %). Freight turnover of port of Libau fell by 11 % to 1.017 million tons. 372.5 thousand tons of bulk cargoes have been transhipped (+27.5 %), 395.9 thousand tons of general cargoes (-38.7 %), and 248.8 thousand tons of bulk cargoes (+21.8 %). Freight turnover of the other seven small ports has decreased by 14 % to 189.2 thousand tons. 6.062 million tons of bulk cargoes have been transhipped for three months of this year via ten Latvian ports, that is 3.4 % less, than for the similar period of the last year, including 5.65 million tons of transhipped oil products, that is 3.6 % less; as for bulk cargoes, 6.19 million tons of them have been transhipped, 4.8 % as much –, including 3.739 million tons of coal (+18.1 %). 2.271 million tons of general cargoes have been transhipped (-7.6 %).
