Sovkomflot and the Admiralty shipyards have signed the agreement on construction of two Arctic tankers
Within the frameworks of the agreement between Gazprom OJSC, Sovkomflot OJSC and the Sevmorneftegaz (North Sea Oil Gas NSOG) CJSC about the implementation of the projects of sea transportation of oil from Prirazlomnoje deposit, NSOG CJSC, Sovkomflot and the Admiralty shipyards FSUE have signed the agreement on the cooperation in the field of implementation of the project on construction of two Arctic shuttle tankers of the strengthened ice class with a deadweight of 70 thousand tons each for transportation of oil from Prirazlomnoje deposit. It was reported by the press-service of Sovkomflot. The appropriate shipbuilding contracts have been simultaneously signed. The transportations of oil by the tankers, which will go under the Russian flag in the direction of Prirazlomnoje, the tanker-store in Murmansk area, are supposed to begin in 2008.
The tankers will be constructed according to the Rules of double classification of the Russian Sea Register of Navigation and the Lloyd Register, including ice class LU 6 (1A Supеr according to the international classification). The vessels will be fitted with two propeller-steering columns of Azipod type (360 degrees rotary electric-driving propeller-steering complex), system of dynamic positioning, helicopter platform and system of the bow reception of a cargo in the Arctic execution. There is an opportunity for operating the tankers without support of the icebreaker during wintertime among ices with a thickness of up to 1.2 meters. The tankers will have a length of 257 m, width of 34 m and a draught of about 14.0 m. The diesel-electric power installation consisting of two main engines will provide the total capacity of 17 megawatts.
The vessels will correspond to the rules, standards and requirements of the International, National and Regional Conventions, including requirements of the Russian Flag.
The NSOG CJSC is a subsidiary of the Gazprom OJSC, the first Russian company-operator on arrangement and operation of oil-and-gas deposits on a continental shelf of the Arctic Ocean and its adjoining continent. The main shelf projects of the Company are Prirazlomnoje oil deposit and Shtokmanovkoje gas condensate deposit.
The Admiralty shipyards FSUE is the oldest shipbuilding shipyard in Russia established by Peter the Great on November 5th, 1704. Modern Shipyards are engaged in designing, manufacturing and modernization of the vessels of a merchant fleet, and also construction and modernization of the ships of military purpose. More than 2.6 thousand ships and vessels have been constructed at the shipbuilding enterprises, which have formed the Admiralty shipyards FSUE, for three centuries.
Sovkomflot OJSC is the largest national sea carrier; it possesses a unique operating experience of the vessels in ice conditions, including the Baltic and the White seas. At the end of 2005, the Company received the Afromax tankers of an ice class Jury Senkevich and Victor Konetsky, which are intended for transportation of oil within the limits of the project Sakhalin-1. The Company plans to increase the transportations from the Russian areas with ice conditions up to 30 % from the total volume of rendered transport services.

In March 2006 Sovkomflot OJSC and the Admiralty shipyards FSUE have signed several contracts on constructions at the Russian shipyard of the seventh and eighth vessels of the series of the tankers-product carriers, once ordered by the Group of companies of Sovkomflot OJSCfrom the Admiralty shipyards. Four tankers have been successfully operating in the structure of fleet of the Company. Delivery of the fifth (the Theatrical Bridge) and the sixth (the Tavricheski Bridge) vessels is planned for the current year.
