New bulker enters the fleet of Murmansk Shipping Company

On July 31 the fleet of Murmansk Shipping Company was expanded through purchase of a new vessel – the Pomorje bulker, the company’s press center reports according to RBC. This vessel is the second in the series built for Murmansk Shipping Company within the framework of a program aimed at modernization of the fleet of dry cargo carriers. In August 2006 the company bought the first bulker of the series – the Grumant of 23.6 thousand tons in deadweight. The Pomorje bulker of the same deadweight is an ice-class vessel designed for transportation of the complete range of bulk and general cargo. The vessel’s length is 180.5 m, breadth – 22.86 m, draft – 9.91 m.

Murmansk Shipping Company OJSC operates 8 nuclear icebreakers and one nuclear lighter carrier. Cruise voyages to the North Pole were started in 1990 when the company was a state-owned enterprise. The current beneficial ownership agreement was signed for 10 years in 1998.
Major shareholders of Murmansk Shipping Company are Arctic Technologies LLC (60.09%) and state (25.5%). Thecompany’s authorized capital totals RUR 943,454.
