Worldwide operations: Texas-based Keppel AmFELS Inc, a Keppel group company, serves customers operating in the Gulf of Mexico and internationally
The jack-up drilling rig is due for delivery at the end of 2009 and is expected to be deployed in the Gulf of Mexico, Keppel Corp said in a release yesterday.
This marks its second contract win from Perforadora Central. The first unit was delivered in 2004 and is now used by PEMEX, Mexico's national oil company.
The rig will be built to the LeTourneau Super 116E design. With leg lengths of 511 feet, the rig can drill wells up to 30,000 feet in water depths of 350 feet.
'Mexico is an important market for Keppel O&M. We are committed to building our track record with Mexican companies such as Perforadora Central by providing them relevant solutions from our suite of products ranging from jack-ups to semi-submersibles for deep-water exploration and production,' said Tong Chong Heong, Keppel O&M managing director & chief operating officer and chairman of Keppel AmFELS.
'With our strategic presence in the Gulf of Mexico and our knowledge of the country through the various projects that we have been executing for them, we are poised to be the preferred partner and solution provider in the Mexican offshore market.'
The contract is not expected to have a material impact on Keppel Corp's 2007 net tangible assets and earnings per share.
Based in Brownsville, Texas, Keppel AmFELS serves customers operating in the Gulf of Mexico and internationally.
It is building six newbuild jack-ups which include four LeTourneau Super 116 jack-up rigs for Scorpion Offshore; one KFELS Super B Class jack-up rig, Ocean Scepter, for Diamond Offshore; one LeTourneau Super S116E jack-up rig, Atwood Aurora, for Atwood Oceanics; and a Sludge Vessel, Red Hook, for New York City's Department of Environmental Protection.
