China invests in Guangxi's Beibu Bay Economic Zone

China is establishing an international transport system, integrating sea, land and air networks in Guangxi's Beibu Bay Economic Zone in a bid to make the bay the transport hub and logistics centre for southwest China, reports Xinhua.
The Ministry of Communications (MOC) will support Guangxi's plan to establish highway and waterway networks to strengthen Guangxi connections with the Pan-Beibu Bay region, said MOC vice minister Weng Mengyong.
The MOC wants Fangcheng Port to become a major national coastal port with Beihai and Qinzhou becoming regional ports. River ports Nanning, Guigang and Wuzhou will be developed as major national ports while Baise, Liuzhou, Laibin and Guiping will become regional important river ports.
The MOC plan includes the waterways of Xijiang River, Youjiang River, Panjiang River-Honghe River, Liujiang River-Qianjiang River in the national high-grade waterway network plan.
Seven expressways have been planned, including expressways from Nanning to Zhanjiang (Haikou), Guangzhou (Fuzhou), Hengyang (Changsha), Guiyang (Chongqing, Chengdu), Kunming, Youyiguan and Dongxing, which cover the three important ports in Beibu Bay area including Fangcheng, Beihai and Qinzhou and major border checkpoints including Youyiguan and Dongxing.
