Pella shipyard to build two tug-boats for Ust-Luga Company

Ust-Luga Company JSC and “Leningrad shipyard “Pella” JSC have recently signed a contract for construction of two azimuth-type tug-boats to be deployed in the seaport of Ust-Luga, PortNews IAA learnt from Yuri Pognayev, acting Director General of Ust-Luga Company. In 2006, Pella built two azimuth-type tug-boats for Ust-Luga Company - the Beluga and the Navaga formed the basis of the company’s port fleet. According to the source, the new tug-boats will be of 3,000 hp and 4,000 hp respectively. The delivery is scheduled for June 2009 with possible acceleration of construction, Pognayev says.

The expansion of the Ust-Luga’s port fleet is attributed to increased cargo flow in the port and to expansion of existing transshipment complexes as well as to introduction of new terminals. The companies do not reveal the contract’s value

As PortNews IAA reported earlier, Valeri Izrailit, Chairman of Ust-Luga Company BOD, thinks the port fleet is one of the basic elements of any port. According to him, the company plans to build tens of different port vessels.
