Volume of transit cargo transported by Ukrainian railway up 26% in Jan-July 07, y-o-y

In the first seven months of 2007, Ukrzaliznytsya (Ukrainian railway) increased transit by 26%, the volume of railway transportation – by 10%.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Ukraine, the volume of railway cargo transportation amounted to 290.6 mln tons (+10.1% or 26.6 mln tons year-on-year). The volume of railway transit increased to 40.4 mln tons (+26% or 8.3 mln tons year-on-year).

Thus, this year Ukrzaliznytsya restored the leading growth rate of transit constituent which was showed by the department in 2005 for the first time. In 2006, the volume increased by 2.5% or 1.83 mln tons.

The share of transit transportation made 13.7% of the total volume of Ukrzaliznytsya, in the first seven months 2006 this share did not exceed 12.2%. According to the department, the base for this progress is the growth of different cargoes transportation including oil products (volume increase twofold), ore (volume increased 1.5 times) and grain (volume increased twofold). The growth of coal and ferrous metals transportation decreased.
