Lithuania and Russia will be connected by new bridge via Neman River

Under a decision of Lithuanian Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas, a work group has been established today to have talk with relevant governing bodies in Kaliningrad Region about construction of a new bridge via NemanRiver. As IA REGNUM was told at the Lithuanian government, the new bridge is planned to be constructed not far from the Queen Luisa Bridge that joins Sovetsk and Panemune. Press office of the government explained that the old bridge has become obsolete and in the near future its bad condition can result in stopping traffic of the cargo trucks on it.

The government also says that expenditures for construction of the bridge, in case they are bisected, will be bigger for Lithuania than for Russia. It is so because meadows of Neman bank form the Lithuanian side are subjected to floods and establishing infrastructure in the Lithuanian bank will cost more than in the Russian one. The financing of the project from the Lithuanian budget is expected to be minimal and major sums are expected to be received from EU structural funds.
