APM Terminal Bahrain recruits 600 to run container facility after new investment

APM Terminals Bahrain has reported new highs in berth productivity (50.48 moves per hour), gross crane productivity (26.5 moves per hour) and the lowest ever gate turnaround of 25.7 minutes at the Bahrain container facility it purchased last December.
The company hired 600 workers more since it took over the operations at the Mina Salman facility, having also invested heavily in infrastructure, reported The Gulf Daily News.
"We have interviewed nearly 2,000 job applicants and recruited 600," said managing director Jorgen Madsen. "All this has resulted in higher productivity levels and better services at the port."
APM Terminals Bahrain is a joint venture between Maersk A/S of Denmark and YBA Kanoo Holdings of Bahrain.
Since December when APM Terminal Bahrain took over port operations, it has invested US$4.9 in new forklifts alone as well as other handling equipment.
The company has also put in an automatic identification system (AIS) in the tower, three new tug boats, and introduced fixed-berth windows for ships.
APM Terminal Bahrain has also introduced a pre-gate system for containers, which reduces truck waiting time, introduced a preventive maintenance programme for equipment to assure the availability of handling equipments all the times.
