Capacity of Russia’s shoaled internal waterways to be recovered within 5 years

The capacity of Russia’s shoaled internal waterways will be recovered within 5 years,  Alexander Davydenko, head of the Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport (RosMorRechFlot), told at a press conference in Archangelsk,  PRIME-TASS reports. Davydenko noted the complete length of Russia’s internal waterways totals some 102,000 kilometers. However, in 2006 the depth sufficient for navigation was guaranteed at only 32,000 kilometers of the ways. This year it was exceeded to 47,000 kilometers. “Federal budget allocates enough money for dredging works but navigation pass of more and more rivers neglected throughout last decade require deepening,” Davydenko said. “The capacity of all 102,000 kilometers of Russia’s internal waterways will be recovered within 5 years,” he added.
