Maersk opens new Chinese terminal

A. P. Moller – Maersk officially launched the new $380 million Songyu container terminal in Xiamen today. Reports say the development is part of Maersk's response to China's growing trade.
Maersk subsidiary APM Terminals controls a 50% stake in the new facilities, which has three deep-water berths capable of handling modern vessels.Xiamen is in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian.
The Xiamen Port Group owns the other half of the Songyu container terminal. China's GDP growth of more than 10% per year has been outpaced by its growth in international trade.
It has triggered billions of dollars of inventment in container port facilities.
