In January-July 2007, Ukraine’s state ports (18 commercial seaports of Ukraine handled 71.8 million tonnes of cargo (+13%, year-on-year), RZD-Partner reports referring to the state’s Transport and Communications Ministry. The growth should be mainly attributed to increased transshipment of transit cargo (+26%, year-on-year) to over 30 million tones, a record result in recent years.
15 ports demonstrated transshipment volume increase by 7-10%. Only three ports (Sevastopol, Ust-Danube and Evpatoria) decreased their throughput.
Transit transportation was increased by 13 ports including 1.5- 3-fold growth demonstrated by 6 of them. The highest growth was that of the ports of Nikolayev and Kherson - over 2-fold and Oktyabrski port – over 3-fold. Three ports of so-called “Big Odessa” (Odessa, Yuzhny and Iljichevsk) increased their results in terms of general throughput including that of transit.
