Samskip has again upgraded its ScanBalt service by doubling its sailing frequency between the Benelux, the UK, Sweden and Baltic Sea ports.
Joining the 803TEU Samskip Explorer on the service is the 366TEU Ute S, which will sail from the Swedish port of Helsingborg each Friday to arrive Hull on Sunday and Rotterdam on Tuesday. She will then sail directly from Rotterdam to Helsingborg. Meanwhile Samskip Explorer maintains her regular weekly schedule linking the ports of Helsingborg (Monday), Varberg (Tuesday), Hull (Thursday), Zeebrugge (Friday) and Rotterdam (Saturday).
The Swedish shipping line Transatlantic European Services AB, which previously had Ute S on charter, has entered into a space charter agreement with Samskip. Consequently customers of both companies are able to benefit from the improved frequency now offered by Samskip.
According to Samskip Multimodal Container Logistics’ CEO, Jens Holger Nielsen, the new schedule, which commenced on 3 September, better meets the needs of customers in Sweden and the Benelux:
We are now able to offer end of the week sailings from both Helsingborg and Rotterdam, allowing deliveries to customers in the UK and Sweden on Mondays. This makes us highly competitive with road trailer transit times.
He continued: “'We are seeing increasing customer demand for more environmentally efficient logistics solutions, from Swedish industry in particular, and this has prompted us to introduce more capacity and an improved frequency. Our multimodal product is now offering departures twice a week from Helsingborg towards Hull and Rotterdam. In Rotterdam, we offer connections to our total European multimodal network while over Helsingborg, we have established links to the Baltic states and Russia.
“The demand for better multimodal solutions is booming and our 45ft palletwide container concept is very well received in Scandinavia. Our aim is to offer a service equal to the trailers in and out of Sweden, and thereby enable our customers to save costs and reduce their carbon footprints by moving their goods from road to sea, and to rail and barge where appropriate.”

The Samskip system is able to move containers door-to-door between over 30 countries from Russia, Scandinavia and Iceland in the north to Spain, Italy, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the south and centre of Europe.
Samskip offers a wide range of routing options, utilising road, rail, sea and inland waterways as appropriate to provide the best combination of rate and transit time to suit individual customers' requirements and preferences. It now has at its disposal over 13,000 containers, ranging from 20ft to 45ft pallet-wide high cube containers including reefers, curtain-siders and flat-racks. Samskip currently operates 26 ships.
