During talks with Caspian states Kazakhstan is going to insist on its using heave-tonnage vessels on the Caspian Sea for hydrocarbons transportation, executive director of national oil and gas company KazMunayGas Arman Darbaev said at the 2nd Eurasian Energy Forum KazEnergy in Astana, Interfax Kazakhstan reports. According to Darbaev, the idea supported not only by Kazakhstan itself but also by its neighbors, relates both to economic efficiency and to safety of transportation. “Efficient transportation across the Caspian Sea is only possible by large-capacity vessels (60,000 tonnes).” According to Darbaev, in 2006 total volume of oil transported via the port of Aktau exceeded 9 million tonnes including 4.8 million tonnes transported by national shipping company KazMorTransFlot.
