In January-August 2007, Vanino Commercial Seaport OJSC increased its throughput by 3%, year-on-year, to 4.3 million tonnes, the company reports. In the reported period export fell 4.3% to 2.161.4 million tonnes, import totaled 717,000 tonnes (+38.1%, year-on-year) including 692,200 tonnes of alumina (+37.8%, year-on-year). Transshipment of coastal trade cargo totaled 241,300 tonnes (+4.5%, year-on-year). The company attributes throughput growth to increased handling of containerized cargo, machines and equipment. In January-August, Vanino-Kholmsk ferry crossing carried 1.180 million tonnes of cargo (+1.2%, year-on-year). In the reported period the port handled 1,152 vessels (including 513 ferries) and 48,800 wagons.
