Transport Ministry pledges to ease traffic jams in Russia

The Russian Transport Minister is ready to develop an effective transport infrastructure in Russia that will help resolve traffic jam problems, Transport Minister Igor Levitin told a State Duma meeting on Wednesday, Itar-Tass reports.

He pointed out that new high-speed roads bypassing big towns will be built. The financing of street roads in cities and towns will be increased more than by 100 million roubles.

The ministry has already taken measures to build and reconstruct high-quality federal roads and international transport corridors in Russia’ s European part such as North-South and Centre-Urals and other directions that help to tap economic potential of the Far East and Siberia.

“We will build more than 2,500 kilometres of roads that form a high-speed road system by means of government-business cooperation and higher budget investments,” Levitin said.
