NATO begins computer-assisted naval exercise in Sevastopol

Representatives of naval forces from fifteen NATO countries are taking part in a computer-assisted command and staff exercise in Sevastopol, the Press Service of the Ukrainian Navy said on Wednesday according to Itar-Tass.

The manoeuvres’ aim is to practice the compatibility of NATO countries with their partners while fulfilling common peacekeeping operations.

Computer technologies help to improve antiterrorist operations, evacuation of civilians as well as organisation of anti-mine warfare, aircraft flights and the security of naval bases. No combat ships or military hardware are involved in the exercise.

This is the third such exercise in Ukraine, an official of the Russian Black Sea Fleet press service told Tass. Representatives of the Russian Navy do not take part in the manoeuvres.
