In January-August 2007, Latvijas dzelzcels (Latvian Railway) transported 34.418 million tonnes of cargo (+1.4%, or + 487,000 tonnes, year-on-year), RZD-Partner reports. Transportation of of oil and oil products grew by 1.8% to 12.943 million tonnes, coal – down 9.9% to 8.319 million tonnes, mineral fertilizers - +15.1% to 3.872 million tonnes.
Transportation of import cargo increased by 3.8% to 28.316 million tonnes, export – by 9.2% to 1.56 million tonnes, internal – -16% to 1.283 million tonnes. Transit to Estonian ports fell by 11.9% to 3.259 million tonnes.
In 2006, throughput of Latvian Railway totaled 48.731 million tonnes (-11.2% year-on-year).
