Throughput of Latvian ports up 3.9% in Jan-Aug 07, y-o-y

In January-August, 2007, the ports of Latvia handled 42.354 million tonnes of cargo (+3.9%, or +1.596 million tonnes, year-on-year), Latvia’s Ministry of Communications reports according to RZD-Partner.
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo totaled 17.765 million tonnes (+8.5%) including 14.823 million tonnes of oil products (+2.1%), 1.614 million tonnes of crude oil (+47.3%). Transshipment of loose cargo totaled 17.488 million tonnes (-2.2%) including 9.352 million tonnes of coal (-10.8%), 3.641 million tonnes of chemical cargo (+16.7%), 1.134 million tonnes of wood chips (-19.3%). Transshipment of general cargo grew to 7.101 million tonnes (+9.2%) including 3.385 million tonnes of timber (+6.5%), 1.465 million tonnes of roll on/roll off cargo (+4.1%), 1.4 million tonnes of containerized cargo (+16%). Throughput of the port of Ventspills amounted to 21.485 million tonnes (+9.2%), Riga - 17.26 million tonnes (-2.1%), Liepaja - 2.646 million tonnes (-2.5%).

In 2006, throughput of Latvia’s ports fell by 0.9% to 59.497 million tonnes.
