Japan's shipbuilders got orders for 4.8 million compensated gross tons from January to June this year, compared with 6.74 million compensated gross tons a year earlier, the Shipbuilders' Association of Japan said yesterday, citing figures from Lloyd's World Shipbuilding Statistics. That cut their market share to 12 per cent from 21 per cent.
Compensated gross tons are an industry measure of ship size, and the time required and materials used in production.
