PTK Holding (Poland) opens container terminal

On 14 September Polish private rail operator PTK Holding officialy inaugurated its container terminal in the Silesian Logistics Centre (SCL, Slaskie Centrum Logistyki) in Gliwice, Silesian Voivodship, RZD-Partner reports.

PTK Holding has built the terminal using its own financial resources and therewith became one of the shareholders of the SCL SA. Agreement between PTK Holding and Gliwice community on selling of 26 per cent of SCL SA shares was signed in 2006. PTK Holding and Gliwice community are the only shareholders of the company. Terminal is located in the river port in Gliwice.

PTK Holding is the only operator of the terminal, but as said Zbigniew Pucek, chairman of the board of PTK Holding, the terminal is open for the trains of all railway operators.

Container terminal is about 30 thousand sq metres big and can hold 1,700 TEUs stacked in 5 tiers. Cargo is handled by two reachstackers type Kalmar DRF 400-450. Terminal is also equipped in two railway tracks in sum long 620 metres.

In the next years PTK Holding wants to enlarge the terminal by 44 thousand sq metres which will enable to hold 3000 TEUs, add 4 railway tracks and buy more reachstackers. Target transshipments are to account for 60 thousand containers a year.

Company is finalising talks with Swiss intermodal operator Eurolog and cooperation between them should start on 1 October 2007. Talks with other operators are being held.

Now, each week, four container trains leave Gliwice and go to Italy, Railway Market-CEE Review reports.
