China major ports Aug container throughput up 21.7 pct at 9.8 mln TEUs

Container throughput at major ports in China totaled at 9.8 mln twenty foot-equivalent units (TEUs) in August, up 21.7 pct year-on-year, the Ministry of Communications said.
In a statement published on its website, the ministry said in the first eight months, container throughput was up 23.1 pct at 71.97 mln TEUs.
Shanghai Port had August container throughput growth of 17.9 pct year-on-year at 2.3 mln TEUs.
Shenzhen Port held second position with container throughput growth of 10.9 pct year-on-year to 1.9 mln TEUs, while Qingdao Port had growth of 17.9 pct to 790,000 TEUs.
Total cargo turnover at the ports in the first eight months rose 15.7 pct from a year earlier to 3.45 bln tons, with cargo handled for international trade rising 14.6 pct to 1.2 bln tons.
Iron ore imports increased 9.4 pct from a year earlier to 255 mln tons in the first eight months, according to the ministry.
