Canadian Prince Rupert Port strengthens links with China

The Prince Rupert Port Authority in Canada has signed a friendship agreement with the Chinese port of Ningbo.
The partnership aims to promote the development of shipping opportunities between the two ports and ease the exchange of economic and technical information.
Prince Rupert Port Authority president and chief executive officer Don Krusel said that “today and in the future we will be building closer and closer ties to the world beyond the waters of the pacific because this terminal truly is where North America meets global Asia.”
Prince Rupert recently launched of its new $170 million Fairview container terminal. Officials said it opened up a new high-speed, congestion-free trade corridor between Asia and North America.
Development of the Fairview facility marks a major expansion for Prince Rupert which is the closest port to Asia by up to 58 hours of sailing time compared to any other West Coast port in North America.
COSCO Container Lines Americas Inc, a division of Shanghai's China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company – (COSCO), has already signed deals that will make it the first container carrier to call at Prince Rupert.
