Capacity of Guangxi's Port of Guigang expected to hit 250,000 TEU by 2010

Container handling capacity of Guigang port in Guangxi is expected to grow from 50,000 TEU to 250,000 TEU by 2010 after expansion projects are completed, Xinhua reported.
The port attracted CNY1 billion (US$132.94 billion) foreign investment to expand the Luobowan and Maoershan port areas in 2006. With these projects, the capacity of Guigang port will be improved to 200,000 TEU in 2008 and to 250,000 TEU in 2010, an official of Guigang Port and Shipping Administration Department said.
The $73.6 million dredging project to Guigang-Wuzhou waterway will also be completed in 2008 when it can accommodate 2,000-tonne vessels, the report said.
Guigang port develops rapidly in recent years with its cargo handling volume increasing 30 per cent to 22.76 million tons, making the largest river port in Guangxi.
