Far East Russia's Nakhodka CT looks to 5 million TEU at year

Russia's Ministry of Transport's container development emphasis in the Far East of the country will focus on Nakhodka, a small city near Vladivostok where it predicts five million TEU being handled a year, reports The Vladivostok Times.
Nakhodka is a port city in Primorsky Krai, Russia, with 148,826 inhabitants as of the 2002 census, down from 160,056 recorded in the 1989 census, according to Wikipedia. In 1950-1991, when nearby Vladivostok was closed to foreigners, Nakhodka became the primary deepwater port in the Russian Far East.
The government now plans to accelerate container development at the country's ports, said acting Transport Minister Igor Levitin. The ministry, he said, plans to increase container traffic up to 15 million TEU a year nationally by 2015.
Specifically the government proposes to increase the container terminal capacities at the Vostochnyi port at Nakhodka to five million TEU annually, in Ust-Luga to three million TEU a year, in Novorossiysk to two million, and 0in Baltiysk to 3,5 million TEU.
