Port of Rotterdam (Netherlands, North Sea) plans to invest EUR 40 million into the development of oil transshipment infrastructure within 2006-2008, Louis Monninkhof, Business Development Director of the port of Rotterdam, told PortNews IAA.
Besides, private investors are to finance other projects including construction of a tank park.
According to Monninkhof, transshipment of oil products will grow by 8-9 million tons by the end of 2008 amounting to almost 50 million tons per year. Transshipment of crude oil is to grow by 1 million tons annually. Today, the port’s annual transshipment of oil is over 100 million tons.
In 2005, the port of Rotterdam transshipped over 360 million tons of cargo including 102 million tons of oil, 90 million tons of container cargo, over 40 million tons of oil products, about 40 million tons of ore and metal scrap. The port handled 31 thou vessels including 1.1 thou tankers with oil (including 120 VLCC/ULCC vessels), 1.65 thou tankers with oil products (including 100 vessels with displacement exceeding 100 thou tons), 4.5 thou vessels with chemicals and vegetable oils.
