Captain of Kapitan Barinov ship fined 100,000 roubles for illegal crab catches in Kamchatka

The city court of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky has found captain of the Kapitan Barinov ship guilty of illegal crab catches. He was fined 100,000 roubles and deprived of the right to occupy the post of captain of fishing vessels for a term of nine months, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Kamchatka territory told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

The investigators have established and proved in court that in the period from June 26 to October 22 last year the Kapitan Barinov ship illegally caught over a tonne of king crab. Over 244 kilogrammes of products were made from it that were stashed “in the refrigerator compartment of the starboard behind a double bulkhead in the vessel’s free space.” The crab catches and processing were not registered in the ship’s documents. The violator was detained by border guards in October 2007.

The Unichek company that owns the vessel has been fined 609,500 roubles.
