Ningbo-Zhoushan Port quarterly cargo tonnage surpasses Shanghai

EASTERN China's Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, which combines the ports of Ningbo and Zhoushan, saw its cargo throughput tonnage rise 16.6 per cent year on year to 126 million tonnes in the first quarter, surpassing Shanghai's throughput of 125 million tonnes and growth of 7.4 per cent, becoming the largest port in China, Logistics Week reported.
The third largest was Guangzhou Port with a throughput of 87.98 million tonnes, rising 5.9 per cent. Tianjin Port was the fourth largest. Its throughput increased 17 per cent to 86.87 million tonnes.
Qingdao was the fifth with a cargo tonnage of 75.06 million tonnes, increasing 13.9 per cent. The northeastern port of Qinhuangdao was the sixth with a throughput of 66.62 million tonnes, up 10.6 per cent. Dalian's cargo volume increased 20.8 per cent to 58.83 million tonnes, making it the seventh largest.
Shenzhen was the eighth. Its throughput went 17.9 per cent up to 50.33 million tonnes. Eastern China's Suzhou Port was the ninth with a throughput of 48.75 million tonnes, rising 14.9 per cent. The tenth was Yingkou Port. Its cargo tonnage rose 24.7 per cent to 39.67 million tonnes.
The annual throughput of both Ningbo-Zhoushan Port and Shanghai Port are expected to reach 500 million tonnes by the end of this year.
