Port Vysotsk exports 1.42 million tonnes of coal in Jan-May 08

In May 2008 stevedoring company Port Vysotsky LLC handled 188,632 tonnes of cargo, the company informs.

In the 5-month period, port Vysotsk exported 1.425.5 million tonnes of Russia coal, a 256,000-tonne decrease year-on-year. The company attributes the decrease to reconstruction of berths and start of dredging work at the port’s approach canal and within the port’s water area.

Port of Vysotsk is located in Vyborg Bay. Today stevedoring company Port Vysotsky LLC specializes in coal transshipment. Port of Vysotsk is all year round navigation port with 4 cargo berths with a total length of 596 meters. Maximal draft of vessels accepted in the port is 9.3 meters which enables the port to accept 25,000-dwt vessels.

The port’s development is related to implementation of investment projects aimed at construction of new terminal complexes. According to the master plan, the port’s throughput is to increase to 15 million tonnes of cargo (including general cargo) by 2010.

In 2007, coal port of Vysotsk grew by 5.5% to 4.309.7 million tonnes.
