Two new ship-to-shore container cranes delivered to Petrolesport container terminal

Two new Panamax ship-to-shore container cranes are delivered to container terminal of Petrolesport (PLP OJSC). The new equipment was produced by Konecranes Heavy Lifting Oy (Finland). The contract value was EUR 10 million, press center of Petrolesport informs.

The cranes are to be put into operation in July 2008. Each 60-tonne crane is able to handle up to 40 container per hour.

The equipment was acquired within the framework of a program aimed at Petrolesport container terminal. As of today, PLP operates four cranes of this type. According to the development program, the number of STS cranes is to be raised to 16 units by 2013.

Petrolesport OJSC is a stevedoring company of the Big Port of St. Petersburg. PLP handles different cargo being the leader in container transshipment in the North-West region of Russia. There are a number of specialized terminals operating at the territory of PLP. From 2005, the company’s annual growth rates make 12%. PLP major perspectives are seen in transshipment of containerized and refrigerated cargo.

Petrolesport container terminal operates from 1994. As of today, its annual capacity is 650,000 TEU. From 2004, average annual growth of the company’s container throughput makes 51%. In 2007, the company handled 368,000 TEU.
