Throughput of Vostochny port up 2.2% to 8.8 mln t in Jan-May 08

In January-May, 2008, throughput of Vostochny port grew by 2.2%, year-on-year, to 8.794.8 million tonnes, PortNews IAA learnt from Vostochny branch of RosMorPort FSUE. In the reported period, transshipment of dry cargo amounted to 8.691.1 million tonnes (+1.8%, year-on-year) including 7.083.8 million tonnes of bulk and loose cargo (+0.2%). Transshipment of coal totaled 6.643.3 million tonnes (-0.2%), mineral fertilizers – 418,900 tonnes (+5.6%), timber – 61,500 tonnes (down 3 times, year-on-year). In the 5-month period the port handled 85,900 tonnes of general cargo (up 7.8 times) including 67,900 tonnes of scrap metal (10-fold increase). In the reported period, the port’s container throughput totaled 167,171 TEU (+14.8%). In January-May the port handled 103,100 tonnes of oil products (+54.1%).

Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
