Saudi ports see volumes rise 10pc in first quarter

Saudi ports cargo throughput in the first quarter totalled 36.1 million tonnes, an increase of 9.94 per cent over the same period the previous year.
Within this total, imports rose by 10.36 per cent and exports were up by 9.63 per cent.
Jeddah Port registered the biggest throughput increase at 4.36 per cent over the reporting period, and took the lion's share of cargo at 11.4 million tonnes, mostly food, construction materials and general cargo.
King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam came second among the commercial ports, handling 5.4 million tonnes of cargo, up 6.18 per cent year on year.
King Fahad Industrial Ports in Jubail and Yanbu handled 9.9 million tonnes and 7.4 million tonnes of cargo respectively, mostly made up of petrochemicals and refined products.
