The two container handling companies aim to cooperate more closely in future in the fields of technology, the environment, security and marketing.
"There are indeed many parallels between our terminal in Bremerhaven and our new partner terminal in Shenzhen," said Emanuel Schiffer, chairman of the Eurogate Group."We have the same customers and utilise the same equipment. This makes an exchange of experience highly interesting [and] will enable us to build a bridge to our customers in China," he said.
Said Michael Zhou, managing director of Shekou Container Terminals: "We welcome this partnership with a terminal that belongs to the corporate group of Europe's biggest terminal operator. As a 'green terminal' we also want to address environmental issues. That will be one of the biggest challenges in the years to come, alongside security and technology."
The Bremerhaven terminal handled 4.9 million TEU in 2007, a company statement said. Shekou Container Terminals handled 3.31 million TEU in 2007.
